An addition extends the main house for a bedroom, a bathroom or a larger living area; an ADU or a garage conversion creates a separate unit for family or rental income, reviewed under the state ADU law published by California HCD. Setbacks, lot coverage and utility connections decide which fits your lot, so we check them on site first.
In the city, permits go to San Leandro’s Building and Safety Services at City Hall, 835 East 14th Street. San Lorenzo is an unincorporated community governed directly by Alameda County, so building permits there are applied for with the County through the Alameda County Public Works Agency’s permit portal.
