Kitchen remodel by EcoStar Remodeling & Construction

What does a kitchen or bathroom remodel in Renton involve?

A kitchen project in Renton usually falls into one of two scopes. A refresh keeps the footprint, with the sink, range and refrigerator where they are, and replaces the surfaces: counters, cabinet doors or new boxes, backsplash, lighting and flooring. A layout change moves those three, takes out a wall or adds an island, which means new drain lines, new circuits and sometimes a beam, and that version is permitted and inspected by the city. More on our kitchen remodeling page.

Bathrooms work the same way. Swapping a vanity, toilet and tile on the existing plumbing is the lighter job; turning a tub into a walk-in shower, adding a second bathroom or moving fixtures brings new supply and drain lines and a shower that is waterproofed and tested before any tile goes on. In the damp western Washington climate, an exhaust fan ducted to the outside keeps moisture out of the walls and ceiling. See bathroom remodeling for the full process.

Can you build an ADU or add on to a Renton home?

Yes. Washington’s House Bill 1337, signed in 2023, requires cities in urban growth areas, Renton among them, to allow at least two accessory dwelling units on lots where a single-family home is allowed, and it dropped the old owner-occupancy rule. A garage conversion, a basement or attached unit, or a detached backyard cottage can all qualify, within the city’s size and setback limits.

Renton also offers free pre-reviewed ADU base plans through its PRADU program, which can shorten design and plan review. Building permits are handled by the city’s Community and Economic Development department at Renton City Hall, 1055 South Grady Way. We help with the application and the city’s comments. Read more on our ADU and home additions pages.

Roofing project by EcoStar Remodeling & Construction

What roofing, foundation and seismic work do Renton homes need?

In a wet climate, roofs usually fail slowly: moss that lifts shingles, gutters that overflow, and worn flashing around chimneys, vents and skylights. A good roof inspection looks at the decking, the flashing and the attic ventilation, not only the shingles, and the right answer is sometimes a repair rather than a new roof. Our roofing page explains both.

Earthquakes belong in the plan too. King County’s hazard maps model a magnitude 7.2 earthquake on the Seattle Fault, a zone of faults across the central Puget Lowland. On an older house with a crawl space, bolting the sill plate to the foundation and bracing the short cripple walls is the usual retrofit, and it is simplest to add while floors or walls are already open for a remodel. Cracked footings, settling and new foundations are covered on our foundation page.

Outdoor project by EcoStar Remodeling & Construction

Decks, driveways and outdoor work in Renton

Months of rain are hard on wood outdoors. On an older deck we check the ledger board where it meets the house, the joists and the railings before replacing boards, because a soft ledger is the part that fails first. New decks can be built in pressure-treated lumber or composite; see deck builders. We also pour and replace driveways, walkways and patios, with the slope and drainage set so water runs away from the house.

Outdoor and daylight projects often pair with an interior remodel: one Renton client’s new skylights with pine tongue-in-groove framing are among the reviews below.

I reached out for bids for a new roof. I met Zane over the phone and set up a meeting. He arrived and we talked about what I was interested in doing. I told him the roof was the priority because my insurance company threatened to cancel me. He agreed that my roof did need a replacement and the reason why insurance companies have issues with old roofs. He laid out some numbers for me about what I was interested in. We talked roof extension, gutters, solar panel cost, battery system an a going with a lighter color. All these things and also some interior lighting the kitchen area. I have to say that after a few hours of his time we reached and agreement on what I was hoping for during the t he process. How fast, the time involved and price were considered. The contract was the biggest issue of course and how much I could afford. EchoStar made me a good offer for the work and I felt very satisfied with the decision to go with eccstar. I was happy with how fast the roof was stripped and preped. The work crews were amazing and did very good work. I did not have many concerns and if I did there was always someone to help answer my questions. Zane the project manager was in contact with me the whole time. I was very happy with his customer service and also his caring of my satisfaction throughout the construction phase. I would highly recommend this company for any construction needs. They have a lot of good worker and I was very impressed and happy with my decision going with EcoStar.

First of all, thank you, Kennet. I truly appreciate the incredible work you and Ecostar Remodeling & Construction did on my attic insulation. I’ve done several home improvement projects over the years, but I’ve honestly never experienced this level of professionalism, precision, and care. From the initial inspection to the final walkthrough, everything was explained clearly and handled flawlessly. The crew was punctual, clean, and extremely detail-oriented. The work was done beyond code, using high-quality materials, with zero shortcuts. The difference in temperature and overall comfort in my home was immediate, and I noticed improved energy efficiency right away. I couldn’t be happier with the results. If you’re looking for a contractor you can truly trust in Oakland, Ecostar is on another level. Highly recommended.

I wasn’t sure how involved this project would be, but the crew really simplified things. They handled each step steadily, kept me updated, and managed the tricky parts without making a big deal of them. The upgraded space feels more modern and easier to use, and the whole process felt surprisingly smooth.

I reached out to Rotem and his company to see if my home’s roof was still under warranty. Unfortunately, the warranty did not transfer over but he gave me a good quote on the repair. Rotem is very professional and his explanation of the work was thorough. He also advised on which repairs around the house can wait, and what needed to be prioritized. He’s a good guy and a pleasure to deal with. If you’re shopping around for quotes, Rotem and Ecostar is a great point of reference no matter which company you go with. They are on my short list of home repair contractors.

Our house needed a fresh look, so we hired Ecotar remodeling, Meni and his team for interior painting and drywall repairs. They handled everything patching cracks, smoothing walls, and applying flawless paint throughout the home. The crew was friendly and careful with our furniture. The colors came out perfect, and the place looks brighter and more modern. Couldn’t be happier with the result.
