## How a Bay Area remodel with us works

Every project, from a bathroom to a backyard ADU, follows the same four steps, so you always know what comes next.

## 1. Book a free estimate

Call us or use the form on our [contact page](https://ecosremodeling.com/contact-us/), and a project manager from the office nearest you sets a time to visit. Tell us what you want to change and roughly when; that is enough to start.

## 2. On-site inspection

We walk the house with you and look at what will shape the job: framing, foundation, roof, wiring, plumbing and drainage. In older Bay Area homes this is where we find the problems that cost less to fix during a remodel than after it.

## 3. Design, scope and permits

We turn your goals into a written scope and, where the work needs one, drawings for the building permit.

You choose layouts, finishes and materials; we explain the trade-offs in cost, durability and lead time so every choice is yours and informed.

Each Bay Area city runs its own permit counter, and seismic or energy-code requirements can add items to the scope. We file the application, answer plan-check comments and book the inspections.

## 4. Construction and final walkthrough

Our crews build to the approved plans while your project manager keeps you updated and meets the inspectors.

The job ends with a walkthrough together, a punch list if anything needs touching up, and the city’s final sign-off.

## Bay Area permits and seismic notes by county

**Alameda County:** Alameda, Oakland, Berkeley, Hayward and San Leandro each review plans at their own city permit center. The Hayward Fault runs along the base of the East Bay hills through several of these cities, so bolting a house to its foundation and bracing its cripple walls are common items on older raised-floor homes. Oakland’s One-Stop Permit Center at 250 Frank H. Ogawa Plaza combines the planning, building, fire and transportation counters, and Alameda preapproves detached ADU plans from qualified designers for a faster review.

**Contra Costa County:** Concord reviews residential plans at its Permit Center, 1950 Parkside Drive. **Santa Clara County:** San Jose permits run through City Hall at 200 E. Santa Clara Street. **San Mateo County:** each city, San Mateo included, runs its own permit review, and we file with the right one for your address.

In all four counties, ADUs and junior ADUs follow the state ADU law published by California HCD, and California’s Earthquake Brace + Bolt program offers retrofit grants for qualifying houses in eligible ZIP codes. We check both for your address during the estimate.
